The Somersville Road Project will widen highway 4 to 8 lanes, including three mixed flow lanes and 1 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction from just west of Somersville Road to just west of Contra Loma Boulevard. The project includes the reconstruction of the Somersville Road interchange, freeway auxiliary lanes, and a median wide enough to accommodate mass transit.

 

 

Construction began in March 2011. Estimated date of completion is mid 2013.
